Work-Based Learning
Internship and Capstone Studio pathways for the BS CSE program at Education Redefined Inc.
Effective January 1, 2027 · Last updated September 11, 2026
Overview
Work-Based Learning is completed through three required 3 SCH courses across the first three years: CSE 191, CSE 291, and CSE 391 (up to 9 SCH total).
Each internship course represents 135 student learning / workplace hours (3 SCH × 45 hours per SCH). Placements may be on-site, remote, or hybrid. For institutional contact-hour accounting toward the program's 1,800 contact-hour total, each required summer WBL/Capstone term contributes 45 contact hours (135 contact hours across the three required summer terms).
If an approved internship is not available for a term, students complete the corresponding Capstone Project Studio course (CSE 195, 295, or 395) for the same credit value.
Placement steps
Students are responsible for securing their own internship opportunity.
Before enrollment, submit the employer's written offer for verification of employer legitimacy, worksite or remote arrangement, workplace supervisor, duties, schedule, and educational alignment.
Enrollment in a Work-Based Learning course occurs only after a Work-Based Learning Agreement is executed among the institution, employer, and student.
Student responsibilities
Submit a brief weekly log of activities, hours, and progress toward learning outcomes.
Submit a final written report connecting the work performed to course learning outcomes.
Complete a brief oral defense or debrief with the faculty supervisor.
Engage in documented work activity in most weeks of the term (at least some activity in at least 3 different weeks per month for monitoring).
Scheduling
Placements are built around a total-hours standard of 135 student learning / workplace hours per course (corresponding to 45 institutional contact hours for that summer term), typically during the Summer Term (about 12–13 weeks).
Weekly patterns are set by agreement between the student and employer, provided documented work activity occurs in most weeks of the term.
Up to 10 hours of missed placement time may be made up, consistent with the institution's make-up work policy.
